A good sow can produce up to 25 lbs (about 11 kg) of milk per day—relative to
her body weight, more than a dairy cow produces—and this pushes her daily
nutrient requirements to roughly three times what they were during gestation.
This is why lactating sows should be fed ad libitum—as much as they will eat—rather than a fixed ration. AHDB research even recommends running separate
